Frequently asked questions about Screenshot Suite

Short, direct answers about what Screenshot Suite does, what it stores and what it does not do.

Updated

Does Screenshot Suite upload my screenshots or recordings?

No. Screenshot Suite processes screenshots, recordings and annotations in your browser and saves them on your device. You do not need an account, and by default the extension sends nothing anywhere. The only exception is optional anonymous usage statistics, which are off by default and only sent if you turn them on.

Two related facts: Chrome may synchronize your Screenshot Suite settings (format, delay, options) through your Google account if you use Chrome sync, but never your captures. And once you export a file, what you do with it is up to you. The Privacy Policy lists every permission and every place data is stored.

Is Screenshot Suite free?

Screenshot Suite is currently offered free of charge and may introduce paid features in the future.

What can Screenshot Suite capture?

Screenshot Suite has nine capture modes: visible area, full page, from the current position, a selected area, a frame, a video frame and the screen, plus two video recordings (a tab, or the screen or a window). See the features page for how each one works and its limits.

Can Screenshot Suite capture a whole web page?

Yes. The Full page mode scrolls through the page, waits for lazy-loaded images and stitches the result into one image. A browser canvas cannot exceed 32,767 pixels on a side or about 268 million pixels in total, so an extremely large page is refused with a clear message. The Full page page has the details.

Does Screenshot Suite record sound?

Recording a tab captures the tab’s sound. Recording a screen or a window does not capture system sound. If you turn on the webcam overlay, your microphone is recorded as well.

Which formats can I export?

Images can be saved as PNG or JPEG, exported as a PDF (split into A4 pages when a capture is very long) or copied to the clipboard. Videos open in an editor where you can trim them and export WebM or MP4, or a GIF of up to 15 seconds.

Where does Screenshot Suite save my files?

By default in a captures folder inside your Downloads folder. You can ask Chrome to prompt for a location each time. Screenshot Suite also keeps its last 30 captures and recordings in a local history that only you can open.

Why does Screenshot Suite ask for access to all websites?

To draw the selection rectangle on any page, to scroll and assemble a full-page capture, and to capture frames. The page scripts act when you trigger a capture. The Privacy Policy justifies every permission one by one.

Does Screenshot Suite work in browsers other than Chrome?

Screenshot Suite is built for Google Chrome. Other Chromium-based browsers have not been tested, so this site does not claim that they are supported.

What are the keyboard shortcuts, and can I change them?

Alt+Shift+X captures the visible area and Alt+Shift+S starts the selection of an area. Both are also in the right-click menu of a page. You can change them on chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Can I annotate my captures?

Yes. Image captures open in an editor with rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, freehand and highlighter, text, numbered markers, stamps, blur and pixelation, a magnifier, crop and resize, a watermark, and a browser frame with padding.
